Magnolia Launches First Official Activity for Youth4Climate Project in Pù Luông

From May 23–26, Magnolia Sustainable Experiences marked a key milestone in our Youth4Climate project: Preserving Pù Luông’s Rice Culture through Water Management in the Tourism Sector. This initiative represents our deepening commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable livelihoods in rural Vietnam.

Our first field activity was conducted in Đôn Village, Thanh Lam commune, Ba Thuoc district—an area rich in cultural heritage but vulnerable to the rapid growth of tourism. A dedicated field group—including Magnolia’s project team, five volunteers, Mrs. Lê Phương Thảo (Institute of Archaeology and Cultural Preservation), and two members of Van Hoa Studio—collaborated to carry out an in-depth community survey and interviews.

Together, we reached 54 households and conducted personal interviews with five key knowledge holders—elders and farmers who carry generations of rice cultivation wisdom. These dialogues were not only insightful but also emotional, revealing stories of how water, rice, and culture are inseparably linked in Pù Luông’s identity.

The findings will serve multiple purposes. First, they will inform the "Rice Up" exhibition set for mid-September 2024, designed to raise awareness about traditional rice practices and water stewardship. Second, they will help develop a long-term livelihood strategy, which we aim to share with local authorities to support sustainable tourism and agricultural resilience.

This marks just the beginning. As we move forward, our work continues to honor and protect the cultural and environmental assets of this beautiful region.
