Magnolia at the 2024 YSEALI Regional Workshop on Sustainable and Inclusive Cultural Tourism

From August 19-22, 2024, Magnolia Sustainable Experiences proudly participated in the YSEALI Regional Workshop on Sustainable and Inclusive Cultural Tourism, held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The event, organized by The Asia Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, brought together 60 young leaders from ASEAN countries and Timor Leste. This workshop aimed to foster dialogue on sustainable and inclusive tourism at cultural heritage sites and strengthen connections across Southeast Asia.

The workshop created a platform for young leaders to discuss key issues facing cultural tourism in the region and explore innovative solutions for promoting sustainable practices. Magnolia was honored to contribute to the conversation by delivering a brief session on Participatory Methods in Capacity Building for Tourism Communities. This session highlighted the importance of involving local communities in the decision-making process, empowering them to take ownership of tourism development while respecting cultural heritage and environmental sustainability.

The feedback received from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with participants appreciating Magnolia’s approach to engaging communities in sustainable tourism. The session emphasized how participatory methods can uplift local communities and foster a sense of pride and ownership in their cultural heritage while enhancing the visitor experience.

Thanks to the YSEALI network, Magnolia has the opportunity to further extend its impact throughout Southeast Asia and Timor Leste. By connecting with like-minded leaders and organizations across the region, Magnolia is poised to collaborate on future projects that promote responsible tourism practices, cultural preservation, and community development.

This workshop represents a significant step for Magnolia as we continue to champion sustainable tourism and build stronger networks throughout the ASEAN region. We look forward to further collaboration and making a lasting positive impact on cultural tourism across Southeast Asia.
